How long does vacuum sealed pork loin last in the fridge

I bought 3 slabs of kc style ribs all wrapped together from costco in a nice tight vacuum seal. I threw them in the back of the fridge and forgot about them. It's been 9 days now. Any chance these are ok to throw into the freezer and cook up later? If that is for 3 meals I would open the packet and have a smell of them and test the texture and if I felt they were still ok I would cook one and bag up the other two and freeze for the future.

Since they're vacuum packed, they're probably still ok to freeze and cook later. Have a good look - even on the clear wrapping, not just the "label" and go from there. Check the date they expire. If they were sold in the area where bacon is sold it probably was frozen before and thawed out in that meat case and good for a few days. Call the store and ask the meat manager or call the number on the meat package to be sure.

Don't take chances with any meat that was not used or put in the freezer a day or two after purchasing it. Good luck! Answer Save. They will probably be ok. Dottie R Lv 7. Mama Jazzy Geri Lv 7. Here are some ways to help you determine whether your pork has gone bad, as well as some food safety tips to help prevent spoilage. According to the University of Mainemeats like pork, poultry and fish spoil quickly. Spoilage occurs when bacteria grows on the food. The USDA explains that there are two types of bacteria: pathogenic bacteria and spoilage bacteria.

Pathogenic bacteria are harmful bacteria that cause foodborne illnesses. The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics lists salmonella, E. Pathogenic bacteria thrive in temperatures between 40 and degrees Fahrenheit. Listeria is an exception, since it is a type of pathogenic bacteria that grows at lower temperatures. Pathogenic bacteria do not affect the smell, taste or appearance of the food in any way. Spoilage bacteria on the other hand may not cause you to fall sick, but they can cause food to deteriorate and start smelling, looking and tasting funny.

Spoilage bacteria grow at lower temperatures and can even grow in the fridge. This basically means that pork chops or ribs that don't smell funny could still have gone bad. The USDA recommends throwing away any meat that has been exposed to temperatures above 40 degrees Fahrenheit for over two hours, since it could be contaminated.

On the other hand, eating pork chops or ribs that smell funny may not necessarily make you fall sick; however, they may have deteriorated in quality. Although it may seem like a shame to waste food, consuming infectious bacteria can cause illnesses and even death, per the University of Minnesota.

An October study published in the journal Epidemiology and Infection estimates that consumption of pork causes 82 deaths, 2, hospitalizations andinfections in the United States every year. The problem is only getting worse; a study published in the December issue of Foodborne Pathogens and Disease notes that climate change and the higher temperatures it causes allow pathogenic bacteria like Salmonella to flourish.

Nausea, vomiting and diarrhea are some of the symptoms of food poisoning.

They usually appear four to 48 hours after consuming spoiled food but in some cases can even appear up to two weeks after, notes the University of Minnesota. When you buy pork, put it in the refrigerator as soon as you get home. The last thing you want is bad pork chops that spoiled because you were too lazy to unpack your groceries.

Pork lasts for three to five days in the fridge, or longer if you freeze it at temperatures below 0 degrees F. If you need to thaw it before you cook it, the USDA cautions against keeping it out on the counter to thaw. Instead, it is safer to thaw it in the fridge, in cold water or in the microwave.

You can cook pork in the oven or on the stove or grill without thawing it; however, if you're using a slow cooker, it needs to be completely thawed first. You don't need to wash the pork before you cook it.

Per the USDA, the cooking process will destroy any bacteria on the surface of the meat. When you cook it, it is recommended that you use a food thermometer to determine that it has crossed degrees F.

Organ meats need to cross an internal temperature of degrees F to be considered safe for consumption.

Is the pig still good? Vacuum packed pork spare ribs, six days in the fridge. Still good? I took ribs that were in the freezer out last Sunday and moved them to the fridge. They are vacuum packed and haven't been opened. I'd like to rub them today and bake them tomorrow. My question is Are they still good?

Six, nearly seven days seems long, but they are vacuum sealed. Also: uncooked, not pre-cooked ribs. I would eat that pig so hard.

You're just fine. Remember that bacteria are arrested by heat and a lack of air. If you don't give them either of those things, they don't expand. Thus, the pork probably has nearly identical counts to what it had when you pulled it out of the freezer, since the lack of air would keep anything new from being introduced, and the cold would keep whatever was still around from being able to multiply. Totally fine, in my opinion.Welcome, Guest.

Have you looked for an "Use by" or "Freeze by" date on the packaging. I have purchased cryovac packaged pork that had a "Use by" date that was good for another three weeks.

Generally bad pork will have a very strong odor, but you can't always go by smell; the pork can be spoiled and have no offensive smell or a very strong smell. If it is cryovac it can have an odor when you take it out of the package, and still be good.

After a quick rinse, the smell should go away, and not return. Other signs of bad pork are the packaging may be bulging, it may have a slimy or sticky surface, there may be green or gray discoloration in the meat do not attempt to cut away the discolored area, and use the rest of the pork. If it has any of those characteristics it should not be used, even if the "Use by" date is still good. Several months ago I had a whole pork loin go bad, and I was well within the "Use by" date.

Yea I decided to be on the safe side since no meat or money is worth making people sick.

In the garbage it went, oh well, lesson learned. Thanks for the advice guys. DaveT Newbie Posts: One of my first post on this board was about a pork shoulder, we had quite a long thread discussing it and at that time we could not come up with a conclusion to why it turned out that way.

I bought one from WalMart and I think it sat too long in the fridge. It did not sit so long as to spoil but it sit long enough to become very bland. As far as smoking it went very well, great stall, fall apart tender, and juicy but it did not taste like any other shoulder I had done in the past. This is just my opinion but I think the longer a piece of thawed meat sits in the fridge the less flavor it will have.
